Donated propeller for U District park stolen

Posted by Kate Bergman on January 31st, 2012

A 70 inch propeller that was intended to be used at an installation for a neighborhood park has been stolen. Neighborhood activist, UW professor and naval architect Philip Thiel  was working with the University District Community Council to donate the propeller to the Seattle Parks Department for a park north of Lake Union.

The thieves apparently were able to take off with the 1,260 pound propeller while bypassing a retaining wall and a fence.  Neighbors heard the commotion but the thieves were gone before police arrived.

If anyone has seen the propeller or knows where it is, please call Seattle Parks and Recreation at 206-684-7241 and Seattle Police at 206-684-5011, or report to police online at www.seattle.gov/police/report/default.htm.

be nice to see a picture! How do we look for something when we don’t know what it looks like?

@balzy, if you see a 1,260 pound propeller where you didn’t see one before, you could probably safely assume it was this one.

I noticed a newer black Toyota Crew Cab Pick-up with black colored visqueen on the back rear window, ‘crusing’ the side alleys within that neighborhood recently.
